At Hands On Pet Care we pride ourselves in giving your pets the best care possible. We believe that pets are happier staying at home when you go on vacation. We strive to imitate your pets schedule and give them lots of attention and playtime. We have experience with all kinds of animals from dogs and cats to small animals, fish, reptiles and horses. For extended care we will also water plants, bring in mail, and turn lights on and off. Excellent references are available. We serve all of Montgomery County including Germantown, Clarksburg, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Olney, etc.

My name is Kate Scher and I am the owner of Hand On Pet Care LLC and the primary pet sitter. I have had a passion for animals my entire life and decided to make it a career. I have experience with a variety of pets and currently own a horse, and two guinea pigs. My dog stayed home with my parents when I moved out of the house.

I graduated from Hood College with a Bachelor of Arts in Management, and a concentration in Finance. I’m using my business experience to run Hands On Pet Care.

My work experience is mainly within the animal field. I have been pet sitting since I was fourteen and always loved it. I volunteered for a summer at the National Zoo in D.C. where I got to work with the cheetahs, zebras, kangaroos, gazelle, and an emu. It was a great experience where I learned to feed, clean up, and care for large animals. I also worked at a grooming shop for over a year where I got to handle almost every breed of dog. I learned how to read dog behavior and handle any situation. It gave me a lot of experience bathing and clipping pet’s nails.

I have ridden horses since I was fifteen. Horses have always been a huge passion for me. I worked my way up at my barn, Oatland Stables beginning with working in the school barn. Then I began feeding and bringing in boarding horses. For the past three years I have been teaching riding lessons to children and adults. I got my horse a little over a year ago. He is a thoroughbred ex-racehorse. We instantly clicked and I had to buy him. He is spoiled like any good horse and even comes when I call him no matter how far out in the field he is.

I am certified in pet first aid. I took the course through the Red Cross. I learned CPR as well as how to deal with any situation. I keep a fully stocked first aid kit and reference books in my car at all times.
